Is this a desktop launcher?

Yes. This Onyx Launcher project by lonestill publishes Windows x64 and Linux x64 desktop builds only. It is not connected to similarly named Android launchers.

Do I need to install Java first?

No. Onyx selects and installs the appropriate Eclipse Temurin 8, 17, or 21 runtime for the Minecraft version you launch.

How do I run the Linux AppImage?

Download it, make the file executable, and launch it. Desktop environments can also expose the executable permission in the file properties.

Does Onyx include Minecraft or bypass its license?

No. Game files come from Mojang and third-party content comes from URLs supplied by Modrinth. A licensed Microsoft account is required for the full Java Edition experience; the official demo can run without an account.

Can I verify the downloads?

Yes. Every release includes separate SHA-256 checksum files for Windows and Linux, and the build workflows are public. Windows binaries are currently unsigned, so SmartScreen may still display a warning.

Where are instances and worlds stored?

They remain in local, platform-specific Onyx data directories. Each instance stays isolated, while World Guard snapshots, portable backups, and operating-system trash protect against destructive mistakes.
